University of Maine at Augusta Signs with Maine Natural Gas

With 70% of Augusta pipeline completed, MNG to start natural gas delivery in 2013

Brunswick, Maine, July 2, 2013  – The University of Maine System has selected Maine Natural Gas (MNG) to provide and deliver natural gas to selected facilities at its University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) campus. Maine Natural Gas recently signed a letter of intent to deliver natural gas to UMA buildings beginning on October 1, 2013. The energy delivery agreement will span five years, with an option to renew for an additional five years.

“This commitment from UMA is another significant testimony for Maine Natural Gas and further proof of our commitment to provide affordable natural gas service to businesses and residences in Augusta and on through the Kennebec Valley,” said Darrel Quimby, vice president of Maine Natural Gas. “The work on our Augusta natural gas pipeline continues to progress very well – we’ve already got more than 70% of it in the ground and are adding to that daily. Customers are joining us every day, and we’ve signed a total of 150 businesses and residences in Augusta, many of whom will start enjoying the benefits of affordable natural gas before the end of this year.”

Maine Natural Gas’s $54 million natural gas distribution construction project in Augusta has created jobs for approximately 200 workers from 15 Maine Companies, and will save Augusta customers millions of dollars in heating costs over its lifetime.
