About Iberdrola USA
reducing emissions

Iberdrola USA has reduced its carbon footprint by 50%

One of our most significant environmental accomplishments to date is the consistent reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent emissions.

Since 1999, we have reduced our carbon footprint by 50% as a result of a variety of initiatives including:

  • A concentrated effort to cut sulfur hexafluoride (SF6) emissions.
  • Aggressive leak detection programs at our natural gas companies to minimize methane emissions.
  • Fuel efficiency improvements for our fleet vehicles.
  • Increased overall energy efficiency in our buildings.

Taken together, the CO2 reductions are equivalent to planting over 13 million trees or taking nearly 17,000 cars off the road.

Global climate change is a reality that requires a shift in thinking and meaningful changes in how we conduct business. Environmental considerations have certainly taken on a new level of importance, and Iberdrola USA has adopted a clear position to address climate change issues. Iberdrola USA's environmental commitments are to:

  • Continue to monitor and reduce our carbon footprint.
  • Engage our supply chain in supporting sustainable business practices.
  • Initiate projects designed to achieve continuous improvements in operational efficiency.
  • Communicate environmental performance information on a regular basis.
